| subject | Please investigate CDC's inaction regarding Lyme/Morgellons disease -- and solve the "healthcare crisis" in the process |
Dear President Obama:
I recently received an eagerly awaited mail regarding the CDC's results on Morgellons Disease. Instead I found the same old information about a "non treatment" study conducted by Kaiser Permanente and Army Pathology labs under contract with the CDC. $500K was wasted on this study, a modern-day Tuskegee syphilis experiment in which patients with a known spirochete-based infection were neither tested nor treated for that infection, but rather just "studied" to watch the ravages of untreated disease turn into a community epidemic. ( FYI, An old letter I wrote to the CDC complaining about the illegality of their study prior to its commencement: http://morgellonsgroup.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=priority&thread=1792.
This "non treatment" Tuskegee-like study happened while at the same time the NIH had categorized the same exact same disease under: Tissue Diseases [C17] -> Skin Diseases [C17.800] -> C17.800.518
| Morgellons Disease | |
| Scope Note | An unexplained illness which is characterized by skin manifestations including non-healing lesions, itching, and the appearance of fibers. There appears to be a strong association with LYME DISEASE. |
|---|---|
Participants in the current study, according to personal communications, tell of patients that were prevented from talking to each other, preventing any study participants from learning about potential etiologies of their "unknown" disease; patients presenting information on Lyme disease to kaiser medical personnel, including peer-reviewed journal medical articles, were treated as if they were insane in mentioning that a tick bite they received may have resulted in their non-healing rashes and lesions. And not a single patient was correctly tested or treated for Lyme disease, through the whole study. The parallels to Tuskegee are unnerving, especially when you consider that the dermatological signs of Lyme/Morgellons disease were among the first non-syphillis "cures" noted after the discovery of penicillin:
"Niels Thyresson of Stockholm notes that penicillin appears to be an effective treatment for ACA, reporting that of 57 patients studied, 7 were cured, 28 improved, and 5 showed slight improvement. The fibrous nodules disappeared and sensory deficits improved."- 1949. ( http://morgellonswiki.info/xwiki/bin/view/Spirochetes/MorgellonsLymeLinkAlreadyNotedIn1940sEurope )
Penicillin is the the exact cure that the Tuskegee participants were denied for the last 25 years of that US Public Health Service (former CDC) study.
My understanding is that experimentation like the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment and the current CDC/Kaiser "unexplained dermopathy" investigation are both illegal under federal law, and both clearly violate the Geneva Conventions. I am requesting executive branch intervention regarding this taxpayer-funded study carried out at Kaiser Permanente, and the related medical fraud/racketeering found by the Connecticut Attorney General related to the Infectious Disease Society of America's guidelines preventing correct diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease:
These issues are related: CDC and IDSA have long colluded against correct Lyme diagnosis and treatment, and therefore, the CDC's stance regarding Morgellons is to simply ignore that there is any relationship to Lyme disease. To this end, the CDC selected the top Lyme-denialist company to carry out what should be public science and research in total privacy. In other words, corporate privacy laws are being used to conceal a Geneva Convention violation, and the entire operation is taxpayer funded.
With the completion of the study, some news, and some information regarding Lyme disease and Morgellons should have been put out. However, since they've conducted an illegal new "Tuskegee syphilis" experiment with a different spirochete, the CDC is not about to admit to it.
If you expect to solve the US's healthcare crisis, you need to fix this problem first. Otherwise federal and state governments will continue to pay the exploding cost of healthcare -- which is directly related to the epidemic of Lyme and Morgellons disease -- and the 350+ "chronic diseases" that these infections cause, which are not treated, not cured by America's Lyme-denialist healthcare. Through sexual and vertical transmission, as well as the increase in biting insects caused by global warming -- expect this disease to cause losses equivalent to that of AIDS in Subsaharan Africa. Lyme/Morgellons disease will continue to disable a greater number of Americans with an ever-shifting panoply of symptoms and preexisting conditions: Alzheimers, Autism, Lupus, Lymphomas, Cancer, Shogren's, Arthritis, Atherosclerosis, MS, ALS, Depression, Mania, and other encephalopathies, are all clearly documented in the medical literature as being symptoms of Lyme disease -- they are in no way "chronic diseases" in their own right unless you listen to the frauds pretending to do medicine while peddling drugs for big-pharma, happy to rack up an ever-lengthening list of preexisting conditions that buoy the profits of the insurance industry.
Eliminate the medical fraud regarding the numerous "chronic diseases" that are treatable and curable if diagnosed correctly, and you solve the "healthcare crisis." That is exactly why a large number of forces collude against correct medicine and towards a fraudulent use of "evidence based medicine" that is founded on exclusion of scientific facts, under pressure from each profitable industry surrounding each bogus "chronic disease." For 350+ chronic diseases that are regularly misdiagnosed instead of Lyme, the Connecticut Attorney General's found that the guidelines espoused by the CDC and IDSA are the result of fraud and collusion, not science: http://www.ct.gov/ag/cwp/view.asp?a=2795&q=414284
- The IDSA failed to conduct a conflicts of interest review for any of the panelists prior to their appointment to the 2006 Lyme disease guideline panel;
- Subsequent disclosures demonstrate that several of the 2006 Lyme disease panelists had conflicts of interest;
- The IDSA failed to follow its own procedures for appointing the 2006 panel chairman and members, enabling the chairman, who held a bias regarding the existence of chronic Lyme, to handpick a likeminded panel without scrutiny by or formal approval of the IDSA's oversight committee;
- The IDSA's 2000 and 2006 Lyme disease panels refused to accept or meaningfully consider information regarding the existence of chronic Lyme disease, once removing a panelist from the 2000 panel who dissented from the group's position on chronic Lyme disease to achieve "consensus";
- The IDSA blocked appointment of scientists and physicians with divergent views on chronic Lyme who sought to serve on the 2006 guidelines panel by informing them that the panel was fully staffed, even though it was later expanded;
- The IDSA portrayed another medical association's Lyme disease guidelines as corroborating its own when it knew that the two panels shared several authors, including the chairmen of both groups, and were working on guidelines at the same time. In allowing its panelists to serve on both groups at the same time, IDSA violated its own conflicts of interest policy.
As with the CDC, the FDA is also practicing politics when it should be basing policy and law on science: ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politicization_of_science#Food_and_Drug_Administration )
In July 2006 the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) released survey results that demonstrate pervasive political influence of science at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).[14] Of the 997 FDA scientists who responded to the survey, nearly one fifth (18.4 percent) said that they "have been asked, for non-scientific reasons, to inappropriately exclude or alter technical information or their conclusions in a FDA scientific document." This is the third survey Union of Concerned Scientists has conducted to examine inappropriate interference with science at federal agencies. The Department of Health and Human Services also conducted a survey addressing the same topic which generated similar findings.[15] According to USA Today, a survey of Food and Drug Administration scientists by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility and the Union of Concerned Scientists found that many scientists have been pressured to approve or reject new drugs despite their scientific findings concerns.[16] In July 2006, the Union of Concerned Scientists released survey results that they said "demonstrate pervasive political influence of science" at the Food and Drug Administration[17][18]
Mr. President -- please solve this problem! You claim to want "hard numbers" backing up your policy decisions: these organizations have been repeatedly shown to be cherry-picking scientific facts to suit the political and profit motives of the few, while claiming to be using science to come up with sound public health policy decisions. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Sincerely,
-- Niels Mayer
PS: Hopefully, you''ll be able to do something about this -- after all you're the first president I've ever voted for that got elected!
